See it in action

Privacy-first photo protection, beautifully designed.

Your photos, encrypted before they touch disk.

You shouldn't need an account, a cloud service, or a subscription to keep your photos private. Every AtticAlbum vault feature works with no connection.

AtticAlbum encrypts your photos with AES-256-GCM, the same standard that protects your Apple Pay transactions. No servers of ours. No third-party code. No data collection. iCloud Device Backup is on by default, with a one-tap opt-out. Your device, under your control.

Everything you need to protect your photos

AES-256-GCM Encryption

Every photo and video is encrypted before it touches the disk. Your encryption key lives in the iOS Keychain. With iCloud on it syncs through end-to-end encrypted iCloud Keychain. Turn iCloud off and the key is removed from iCloud Keychain and kept on this device only.

Built-in Private Camera

Capture directly into your encrypted vault, your Camera Roll, or the Hidden album. You choose where every photo lands.

Biometric Authentication

Face ID and Touch ID at the app and album level. Configurable auto-lock for flexible security.

No Cloud Account Needed

Every vault feature works with no connection. iCloud Device Backup is on by default, with a one-tap opt-out.

Zero Third-Party Code

Built entirely with Apple frameworks. No third-party SDKs, no ad networks, no external dependencies.

Encrypted Backups

Password-protected .hsbk backup archives you can store anywhere. Restore is always free.

Capture Directly Into Your Vault

The built-in camera supports flash, zoom, grid overlay, self-timer, and front/back switching. Choose where every photo lands: your encrypted vault, the Hidden album, or your Camera Roll.

  • Flash, zoom, and grid overlay
  • Self-timer with 3s and 10s options
  • Choose Normal, Hidden, or Private Album save modes

  • Album-level passcodes for compartmentalized security
  • Screenshot and screen recording protection
  • Brute-force protection with exponential lockout

Frequently asked questions

Is my data truly encrypted?

Yes. Every photo and video is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, one of the strongest encryption standards available. The encryption key is stored in your device's Keychain, where only AtticAlbum can reach it. We never see it and we have no servers to store it on. With iCloud on, iOS syncs it through end-to-end encrypted iCloud Keychain so you can restore on a new device.

Does AtticAlbum upload my photos anywhere?

No. We have no servers, so your photos and videos never reach us. Encryption and storage happen on your device. Two things ride on the iCloud Sync toggle, which is on by default with a one-tap opt-out: iCloud Device Backup includes your encrypted photos and videos in Apple's standard device backup, and iCloud Keychain holds your encryption key under end-to-end encryption that Apple cannot read. If you turn on location tagging, AtticAlbum asks Apple Maps to turn a photo's coordinates into a place name, and nothing else from your vault goes with it. There is no live cross-device sync; use the .hsbk backup file for device-to-device portability.

What happens if I forget my passcode?

If you forget your app passcode, there is no way to recover it. AtticAlbum stores only a one-way cryptographic hash, never the passcode itself. However, if you have Face ID or Touch ID enabled, you can still unlock the app and reset your passcode from Settings. We recommend storing your passcode in a password manager as a backup. Album passcodes can be reset using your app passcode.

What is the difference between Free and Pro?

The free tier includes full AES-256-GCM encryption, the built-in camera, biometric auth, album passcodes, screenshot protection, 3 albums at a time, and unlimited backups. Pro ($9.99 one-time) adds unlimited albums, custom sort order, and location tagging. No subscription.

Can I restore from a backup without Pro?

Yes. Restoring from a backup is always free, regardless of your tier. AtticAlbum never holds your data hostage.

Does AtticAlbum work offline?

Yes. Every vault feature works with no connection: capturing, encrypting, viewing, searching, and managing your media all happen on your device. The network is used for three things: the App Store request that fetches the Pro price and confirms your purchase status, iCloud Sync if you leave it on, and Apple Maps place names if you turn on location tagging.
